Save the date: June 17 and June 16, if you are ready for an extra challenge!
The “OMVNA Shake-Out” is a practice run to check if your family is prepared for an earthquake, with the opportunity to meet our neighborhood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for feedback and tips.
The goal is to help you think about preparation for emergencies and how to keep safe during one.
This “design your own earthquake drill” lets you and your family decide
1) when to start, either on Friday evening or Saturday morning,
2) which utilities you will lose: gas, electricity, water, and
3) how much damage occurs to your home.
Will you be cooking on a camp stove or gas grill? What will you use for light?
Is your house uninhabitable? You could be out of doors for the duration and will need a shelter.
Then, at 10 am on Saturday, June 17, gather at Fairmont Park, corner of Bush Street and Fairmont Avenue to share experiences and meet OMVNA CERTs, who have trained to help the community during a disaster. There will be displays and activities related to emergency preparedness.
See below for the four different challenges: The Zayante Fault, The Calaveras Fault, The Hayward Fault, and the San Andreas Fault.
For detailed guidance on emergency preparations, see the government website: https://www.ready.gov/
